ACLU of Maryland
The ACLU of Maryland seeks an Engagement/Mobilization Director, for a newly-created management position. The ideal candidate is a highly organized people-person who is enthusiastic about developing relationships with all kinds of people all over the state of Maryland to further the goals of the ACLU – namely, protecting the rights of all people in Maryland, while prioritizing race equity both inside and outside the ACLU.
About the ACLU of Maryland
Founded in 1931, the ACLU-MD is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with over 42,000 members and supporters. We have two offices in Maryland: Our main office in Baltimore and a field office in Takoma Park, Maryland. The ACLU-MD is an affiliate of the national American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The Director of Engagement & Mobilization will be able to work out of both.
Our affiliate, like the ACLU nationally, has experienced significant growth of late as we have engaged in fighting recent, aggressive efforts to undermine civil rights and civil liberties. Our 20 staff members, along with hundreds of volunteers, work daily to achieve our mission using litigation, legislation and public education on a broad range of constitutional issues, including racial justice, criminal justice, free speech, religious freedom, reproductive rights, LGBT rights, privacy and voting rights. For a fuller view of our broad agenda, visit http://www.aclu-md.org.
About Our Engagement & Mobilization Work
Under the Engagement/Mobilization Director’s leadership the ACLU of Maryland will organize and mobilize people to advance our public policy, legal, and communications priorities. The Director will build relationships and serve as the primary point of contact for activists (e.g., ACLU members, board, and committee members, chapters, People Power, volunteers, communities, and partner organizations). They will act as a connector between ACLU staff and activists, and share information about these relationships interdepartmentally within the ACLU.
